Beach Streets in Uptown Long Beach
Beach Streets is an annual event in Long Beach where streets are closed to vehicle traffic while pedestrians and cyclists take over! Beach Streets Uptown will take place on November 9, 2024, from 11AM to 4PM and feature live entertainment and activities for kids and families. For more details, go to beachstreets.com or follow @beachstreetslb on Instagram.
MAP IT OUT
Beach Streets Uptown will welcome thousands of pedestrians and cyclists to the streets, local businesses, and attractions in the northern portion of Long Beach. The two-mile route begins at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and South Street, travels north to Artesia Boulevard, and ends at the intersection of Artesia and Cherry Avenue. Street parking is available east of Houghton Park. ADA parking and the Paratransit drop off are located on Harding Street between Atlantic and Myrtle.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Beach Streets was born out of an event celebrating bicycles on city streets, but it is open to all who get around without a motor, whether that’s on foot or on a bike, skate board, skates, stroller, or wagon. If you want to join in on the fun but don’t own your own bike, you can borrow one through the Long Beach BikeShare program. Rent a blue eight-gear bike equipped with an adjustable seat, basket, bell and lights, plus a GPS. The bikes can be picked up and dropped off at any designated hub.
ARTESIA HUB
The Artesia Hub located near Artesia Boulevard and Cherry Avenue will serve as the main hub of Beach Streets Uptown and will feature music and entertainment throughout the day. After the route opens at 11AM, a welcome ceremony will take place at 12:30 PM at the main stage. Hub visitors can also learn about the infrastructure improvements being made along Artesia Boulevard for safer streets and healthy communities, including tree planting, improvements to protected bike lanes and bus stops, and installation of new signage, street furniture, lighting, and landscaping.
LIBRARY HUB
The festival hub at the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library (5870 Atlantic Ave) will feature live music and community resource booths. Bikes are available to rent through the City’s Bikeshare program at the library hub, as are electric scooters.
VETERANS HUB
The Veterans Hub will be located at Houghton Park (6301 Myrtle Ave), where the City of Long Beach’s annual Veterans Day Celebration will be underway. The event features a veterans resource fair, live music from Knyght Ryder and Satin Dollz, aircraft flyovers, food trucks and a beer garden. Attendees can try their skills in a boot camp style obstacle course, and kids can enjoy a Skate Zone with skate park demos and skateboarding lessons.
