Cuisine Scene: Steakhouses
Some nights just call for that classic steakhouse experience, with the traditional menu, white tablecloth service, and extensive wine list. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion, hosting business clients, or treating the family, Long Beach offers a selection of steakhouses that fit the bill.
555 EAST
555 East (555 E Ocean Blvd) has been a Long Beach fixture since 1983. Named one of the 100 most romantic restaurants in the country in 2023 by OpenTable, 555 East has an old-school interior with plush upholstered booths, dark wood paneling, and a central bar complete with brass railing. The restaurant serves USDA Prime steaks that are dry aged for 30 to 90 days. It also features an exceptional 6-ounce Japanese Satsuma Wagyu A5 New York strip steak.
THE CARVERY
Meat lovers will enjoy The Carvery (201 Pine Ave), where flat iron bistro steak is an appetizer and you can order the Butcher’s Block Meat Sampler and receive 8 ounces each of filet mignon, ribeye, and flat iron steak, plus two family-style sides and three sauces. Located in the art deco building on the corner of Pine Ave and Broadway, The Carvery interior has elements of a traditional steakhouse with a modern finish, like walls covered in greenery and sculptural light fixtures. Enjoy live music on Fridays and Saturdays at 6:30 P.M.
RUTH’S CHRIS LONG BEACH
The Long Beach branch of Ruth’s Chris Steak House (180 E Ocean Blvd, Ste 160) is located along the Convention Center Walkway, steps away from the convention center doors. Its sleek, modern interior includes both upholstered booths and tables for four, plus bar seating. USDA Prime steaks are served on a sizzling 500-degree plate, and the rest of the menu features steakhouse standards, like Ceasar salad, potatoes au gratin, and lobster mac & cheese. The restaurant also offers a prix fixe special menu and happy hour Monday-Friday and Sunday from 4 to 6 P.M.
QUEENSVIEW STEAKHOUSE
Queensview Steakhouse (435 Shoreline Village Dr) is located on the third floor under the round, peaked roof of Parkers’ Lighthouse, providing a 360-degree view of the city skyline as well as the Queen Mary across the bay. The restaurant hosts live jazz on Tuesday through Saturday nights and serves a traditional steakhouse menu along with seafood, including a raw bar, sushi menu, and seafood entrees. Take a date and order the Prime porterhouse for two, which includes a choice of two sides and a dessert to share.
