Deck the Halls with Long Beach Ornaments

Nothing dresses up the holidays like ornaments. Whether hanging from a tree or posed atop the fireplace mantle, an ornament helps to make the Yuletide bright and shiny. Long Beach offers a wide variety of distinct shops offering all manner of ornaments, so, whether you’re looking for something silly, sentimental or sparkly to dress up your spaces and lift your spirits, here are some places to find a great hang.

SANTA’S WORKSHOP

Around the holidays, a bit of the North Pole shows up at Shoreline Village as Santa’s Workshop (419 Shoreline Village Dr Suite A) appears with whimsical holiday decor and row upon row of Christmas ornaments. Yes, there are Santas and Gingerbreads but, given its oceanside proximity, there are also plenty of nautical holiday items like pirates, lighthouses and plenty of mermaids and mermen.

THE BETTER HALF BOUTIQUE

The Better Half Boutique (3803 Atlantic Ave) is located in Bixby Knolls and is known for its family atmosphere–it’s owned by a mother/daughter partnership–and wide array of gifts that can be custom engraved. That includes Christmas ornaments, which can be engraved with a special message, person’s name or the year. Ornaments are displayed throughout the store, as are holiday gift possibilities like kitchenware, specialty foods, picture frames and lots of unique gifts.

LB SWAG

Celebrating all things Long Beach, LB Swag (5304 E 2nd St.) carries products made by local vendors, including an ornament that commemorates one of the city’s most iconic holiday traditions: the floating wooden Christmas trees located on waterways throughout the city. While the actual wooden-framed pyramid structures are 16 feet tall, LB Swag carries a miniature 5-inch-tall ornament version as well as a 14-inch centerpiece lined with LED string lights.

FAIR TRADE LONG BEACH COLLECTIVE

True to its “glocal” collection–emphasizing items from around the corner and around the world–Fair Trade Long Beach Collective’s (4105 N. Bellflower Blvd) ornaments include those made by local makers as well as those created by international crafters, such as felt ornaments from Nepal. While you’re there check out its perpetually rotating collection of one-of-a-kind items, ranging from clothing to jewelry to artwork.

LUNA BELMONT SHORE

Luna Belmont Shore’s (4928 Second St) has a well known commitment to carrying great, unique ornaments year-round, and we mean ALL YEAR. Their window display of ornaments is one of the most popular stops on Second Street, especially during the holidays. And those ornaments come in all shapes, sizes and subject matter, from Santa to zombies, unicorns to pet puppies, Stevie Nicks to David Bowie. Stop by and have a look, better yet, go inside and pick one to take home!

SONGBIRD

Simply one of the most entertaining retail spots in the city, Songbird (2240 E Fourth St) on Retro Row is the kind of place you wander into and find it very hard to leave. You can revel in items that range from unique to hilarious to uniquely hilarious. That extends to holiday ornaments, which can be hilariously unique whether you choose Christmas cacti, Krampus or a monster collection including Wolfman, Frankenstein and Dracula.
