The Fairmont Breakers in Long Beach

Fairmont Breakers, fresh off a $150 million restoration, returns to take its place as one of the historic jewels of Downtown Long Beach. The nearly 100-year property, the city’s first luxury boutique hotel, opened in late November, returning with beloved favorites like The Sky Room restaurant as well as plenty of new features like a two-story spa, third story pool, and rooftop lounge.

Opened in 1926, The Breakers (210 E Ocean Blvd) as it was known then immediately became one of Southern California’s most fashionable hotels, complete with boutiques, a Turkish bath, roof garden, elaborate dining rooms and private beach entrance. Not surprisingly, the hotel was much sought after by Hollywood’s Golden Era elite, attracting the likes of Cary Grant, Rita Hayworth and Clark Gable, among many others who regularly found their way to 200 Ocean Boulevard to dine, dance and stay over.

The Sky Room, opened in 1938, was as popular a Hollywood hotspot as The Brown Derby and Coconut Grove and became a pre-eminent fine dining destination for locals. It now returns as a featured restaurant with all of the elements that made it so great for so long: elegant cuisine, cocktails, and wine offered in a breathtaking venue with spectacular harbor views.

Other dining offerings include the authentic Italian home cooking of Nettuno, which serves as a relaxing yet elegant haven for casual dining; a perfect Long Beach gathering place for breakfast, business lunch or dinner as well as leisurely weekend brunch. La Sala offers morning espresso and pastries, afternoon tea, and evening cocktails in a lush green setting with spectacular palm tree chandeliers.

Honoring the hotel’s jazz tradition, Alter Ego will feature music and live performance, while rooftop lounge Halo offers stunning 360-degree views stretching from Downtown LA and the Hollywood hills to Catalina Island. Breakers’ pool is located on a third-floor terrace with views stretching to the ocean, its 50-by-14-foot pool a secluded retreat for relaxation as well as a cocktail at its poolside bar. The Fairmont Spa and fitness center are state-of-the-art and located in a two-story space that is available to hotel guests as well as visitors with spa reservations.

Its 185 guest rooms and 22 expansive suites–both one and two-bedroom–are bathed in coastal blue and gold tones with marble bathrooms and indulgent amenities. There are also 10 unique venues, comprising 10,000-square-feet of meeting and event space, able to accommodate large gatherings, grand soirees or intimate celebrations.
