Restorying Pasifika Histories: Imperial “Possessions” and the 1898 Treaty of Paris
April 5, 2:00pm
The Pacific Island Ethnic Art Museum will host an event with artist and educator Melodie Turori. The Spanish-American war ended when the two empires signed the 1898 Treaty of Paris. Guam and other territories Spain “discovered” were ceded to the United States as part of that treaty. The colonization process that began with Spain and continued under the U.S. fundamentally changed the relationship between CHamoru people and the island.
The Restorying Pasifika Histories series centers the living histories of Pasifika, informed by Moana Nui knowledge systems and philosophies, as held by the lands of Tongvaar, Kumeyaay, and Luiseño.
RSVP to team@pieam.org by April 3.
Admission: $3-5, free for PIEAM members. Limited seating.
